About

Woven is a digital publication for and about Asian Americans. We cover culture, food, career, and identity — the things that make up daily life for 24 million Americans whose stories deserve more space.

What We Cover

Asian American life doesn’t fit neatly into a single narrative. We cover the full range: the food and the history behind it, the workplace dynamics that don’t have easy names, the cultural debates happening in group chats and family dinners, and the films and shows that get it right — and the ones that don’t.

  • Culture — identity, history, community, and the ideas shaping how Asian Americans understand themselves and are understood by others.
  • Food — the cuisines, ingredients, restaurants, and stories behind the cooking that has always been central to Asian American life.
  • Career — workplace dynamics, the bamboo ceiling, entrepreneurship, and what building a professional life looks like when you’re navigating more than one set of expectations.
  • Entertainment — film, television, comedy, and the creators making work that finally reflects the full complexity of Asian American experience.

Who We Are

Woven is published by a team that has spent careers in media and technology — and grown up navigating the specific experience of being Asian American in professional environments that weren’t built with us in mind.

We started Woven because we kept noticing the gap between how Asian American life is actually lived and how — or whether — it gets covered. The 24 million Asian Americans in the United States represent dozens of nationalities, languages, and generational experiences. Most coverage either ignores that complexity or reduces it to a handful of familiar stories. We’re trying to do better.

The name comes from the idea that Asian American identity is not a single thread. It’s made of many — language, generation, country of origin, class, religion, political history, and the particular experience of navigating between cultures. Woven is where those threads come together.

Editorial Standards

Woven is committed to accuracy, fairness, and transparency. Our editorial work is guided by the following standards.

Accuracy and Fact-Checking

Every article is reviewed before publication. We confirm factual claims — names, dates, statistics, quotes, and attributions — against original sources. For statistical claims, we cite the underlying study, government dataset, or institutional report rather than secondhand summaries. For claims about specific people, organizations, or events, we seek primary documentation. When stories require it, we reach out to subjects of critical coverage for comment.

Sources and Attribution

We prioritize primary sources: peer-reviewed research, government data, court records, and direct interviews. We link to original sources where possible so readers can verify our reporting. We use named sources whenever feasible. When we cite anonymous sources, we do so only when the source faces credible risk for speaking publicly and only when the information is substantively important — and we explain the reason for anonymity in the article.

Unless otherwise credited, images are sourced from Unsplash or other free-to-use image sources.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial content is independent of our business interests. Advertisers, sponsors, and affiliate partners do not influence what we cover, how we cover it, or which stories we decline to publish. When an article contains affiliate links, this is disclosed at the top of the piece. Sponsored content is clearly labeled as such and is produced separately from our editorial workflow. Contributors do not accept gifts, compensation, or free products from companies or individuals they cover, except where products are temporarily provided for review purposes and disclosed within the article.

Use of AI Tools

We use AI tools to assist with research and drafting. Every article is reviewed and edited by a human editor before publication. AI-assisted drafts are not published without editorial review, and the editor takes responsibility for the accuracy, framing, and quality of all content published under Woven’s name. We do not use AI to generate quotes, fabricate sources, or invent factual claims.

Perspective and Community

We write with a clear point of view: Woven is a publication for and about Asian Americans. We represent the diversity of experience within this community — across nationalities, generations, regions, religions, and political perspectives — rather than flattening it into a single narrative. We are particularly attentive to coverage of communities, identities, and experiences that mainstream coverage has historically reduced or overlooked.

Editorial Process

Story ideas are developed by our editorial team or proposed by contributors. Pieces are researched, drafted, fact-checked against primary sources, and reviewed by the editor before publication. Major claims are confirmed independently where possible. After publication, we monitor pieces for new information that may require updates or corrections.

Ownership and Funding

Woven is published by Pinefield Holdings, an independent company, and is not part of any larger media group. Our work is funded through advertising, affiliate partnerships, and reader support, and no outside investor, political organization, or commercial sponsor has editorial influence over our coverage. Woven is based in New York, NY.
